Lizzo is clearing some things up regarding her non-involvement in Jennifer Lopez’s recently released movie musical about her life and career, “This Is Me...Now: A Love Story.”
In a now viral clip floating around from the documentary chronicling the making of JLo’s new film titled, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” producers for “The Wedding Planner” star can be seen running down a list of celebrity names who were all reportedly “unavailable” to make an appearance in “This Is Me...Now”—with Lizzo being named as one of them.
However, in a video posted to social media, the “Truth Hurts” singer is setting the record straight, revealing that she essentially wasn’t even aware of the project and wasn’t even asked to be a part of it.
“Ain’t nobody told me nothing, nobody asked me,” Lizzo said in a TikTok on Thursday addressing the news. “JLo I love you.”
Other stars were reportedly asked (but declined) or were either unavailable, included folks like Snoop Dogg, Jason Momoa and Taylor Swift. But that doesn’t mean the film was without notable names. Folks like Neil deGrasse Tyson, Keke Palmer, Jenifer Lewis, Trevor Noah, Jane Fonda and more did make cameos.
Regardless of who showed up or didn’t, it’s clear JLo isn’t in her feelings about it and ultimately feels she got the people she needed.
“They [the producers] were giving me a list of all these amazing people, and I was like, ‘Yes, I like all of those people, but that’s not what I want,’” she explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “My first people were Jenifer Lewis and Jane Fonda, and they were like, ‘Wait, we don’t get it. This is like music. This is young.’ And I was like, ‘No. This is a council of people who I want to be very diverse. I want all different kinds of people.’’’
She later added: “These are people with all different personality traits from all different walks of life. But they all have something that affected me in some way — their philosophy on life, on love, on the universe, on music. That was the list that I made.”
