A North Carolina family was left grieving after police say a fatal shooting led to the murder of a father of four. According to police, it started as a disagreement between two men and ended in shots fired.
Samori Husamudeen, 25, worked as a DoorDash driver in the Fayetteville, N.C. area. On the night of Thursday (Dec. 26), Husamudeen entered a local McDonald’s to pick up an order, according to WTVD.
That’s when Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West said the victim got into an altercation with one of the employees of the establishment, Kevin Holland, also 25. From there, Holland allegedly retrieved a gun from inside the McDonald’s and began shooting Husamudeen.
The investigation into what exactly caused the disagreement between the two men remains ongoing. Police soon arrived to the scene of the shooting and found Husamudeen dead after suffering from multiple gunshots, according to WTVD.
“It was a senseless act of violence,” District Attorney West said in response. “In our community that can’t be tolerated, you know, for someone to lose their life, you know, over what appears to be a verbal altercation.”
Holland reportedly fled the scene by the time authorities arrived. He was apprehended the following day at a Walmart in Spring Lake, N.C. Now, he has been charged with first-degree murder, according to WXII. He was denied bond despite not having a criminal record.
In a statement obtained by WTVD, DoorDash said, “We are devastated by this tragic loss and our hearts are with Mr. Husamudeen’s loved ones. This was a horrible and tragic crime, and we stand ready to assist law enforcement in bringing the individual responsible to justice.”
“He was kindhearted and a very devoted soul to those who got the chance to know him. He could light a room with just his smile,” Husamudeen’s family told WTVD. According to Husamudeen’s cousin, “he loved his family, especially his kids. He always smiled, no matter what was thrown his way. He is truly going to be missed.”
If convicted, Holland could face life behind bars or the death penalty.
