A rope tied into a noose was found hanging outside the Gotha Middle School in Orlando, Fla., prompting an investigation by the police.

According to the Associated Press, several students and staff members at Gotha saw the noose Wednesday morning before it was removed. Orange County (Fla.) Public Schools officials confirmed that police are investigating the incident and that whoever is found to be responsible will be prosecuted. Officials added that counselors would be available to talk to students and that extra security would be on hand.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the noose was hanging from or whether any classes were canceled because of it.

Even though the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing the incident, the spokesperson said it didn’t appear to be a crime.
