Dogs are man's best friend, so there's no telling what some people might do to advocate on behalf of those friendly, furry creatures.
Arizona Cardinals cornerback Tyrann Mathieu filmed a public service announcement for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, to let folks know that like children, dogs should not be left in hot cars. Mathieu went to great lengths to demonstrate why it's just not a good idea.
He sat in a parked car for several minutes on a 90-degree day, with al the windows rolled up, to show people what hot cars do to humans—let alone dogs, which can't speak or protest when the heat becomes unbearable.
A video camera placed inside the car filmed the demonstration.
The temperature quickly rose to 92 degrees and then crept up to 97 degrees, then 105 degrees, then 113 degrees, and finally peaked at 120 degrees before Mathieu decided that he'd had enough and bolted out of the car. He was dressed lightly, wearing plain ol' jeans and a T-shirt.
Throughout the clip, Mathieu can be seen trying to cool himself and wiping sweat from his face. When he gets out, he immediately drinks water.
"I seriously couldn't imagine leaving my dog in a car like this," he says. "If you're going to make a dog a part of your family, then make it a part of your family."
It's certainly a legitimate argument: If you can't handle the heat, then neither can your dog.
