A Louisiana woman was handed a hefty prison sentence for her role in the death of a 5-year-old boy whose body was found hidden in a suitcase. She didn’t kill him, however, she was friends with the woman responsible: the boy’s mother who is still at large.

Dawn Elaine Coleman, 41, was sentenced to 30 years in prison with five years probation after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in connection to the death of Cairo Ammar Jordan, per an AP report. The Indiana State Police say the boy lived with his mother, Dejuane Anderson, and her acquaintance, Coleman, in Louisville. It’s unclear what exactly the relationship was between the two women. However, police say in April 2022 Coleman found Anderson lying on top of the boy who was face down on the bed.

“It was already done,” she told investigators implying the boy was dead.

She told the police she was asked by Anderson to help place Cairo into a trash bag and then into a Las Vegas themed suitcase which was later dumped in the woods. Police say it wasn’t until a mushroom hunter found the abandoned luggage that Cairo’s body was discovered. His autopsy revealed he died a week earlier from vomiting and diarrhea leading to dehydration, the cops said.

Months later, the then-unidentified boy was buried and the search for his killer began, revealing a potential yet spooky motive behind his killing.

Court documents also revealed a slew of disconcerting posts on social media made by Cairo’s mother in the days before he was killed.

“I have survived the death attacks from my 5-year-old throughout the 5 years he has been alive,” she tweeted on 12 April 2022. “I have been able to weaken his powers through our blood. I have his real name, and he is 100 years old. Need assistance.”

She also wrote about plans “to exorcism [sic] a very powerful demonic force from within my son,” adding, “just because the avatar is of what we call a child does not mean that it is actually a child.”

“[T]here are beings that are here that are not supposed to be here that pick avatars to hide behind to play roles to steal energy and ruin lives,” she wrote in another post.

Police used fingerprints on the suitcase and cellphone data to identify and track down Coleman in November 2022. However, the boy’s mother is still at large. As a part of Coleman’s plea agreement, she is required to testify against Anderson when it’s her time to report to the courtroom, per WHAS 11.

“You packaged Cairo like trash. He was an innocent little boy who wanted to be love,” Judge Larry Medlock said during Coleman’s sentencing on Tuesday, WHAS 11.
