Finally, there’s a new development in the horriyfing killing of a Los Angeles model who was found beaten and bound inside her refrigerator in September. Police say they tracked down a potential suspect but didn’t specify how they identified them as the alleged killer…
Do they have the right guy?
The LAPD say 41-year-old Magnus Daniel Humphrey was confronted by police at his home in Minneapolis. He was on probation for narcotics offenses and was arrested on an unrelated federal warrant. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office went ahead and filed charges in connection to the killing of 31-year-old Maleesa Mooney, per The Associated Press.
LAPD said they conducted a welfare check by request of her mother on Sept. 12 when they found her counter riddled with every content of her refrigerator. When they opened the fridge, they found Mooney dead inside with a piece of clothing wrapped around her neck, bound by her wrists and ankles with electrical cords and gagged with another piece of clothing. Police said there was a pool of blood underneath the fridge, noting Mooney was covered in lacerations and bruises.
The coroner’s report described her death as “homicidal violence.” The report said it wasn’t clear what her exact cause of death was but the medical examiner believed it stemmed from a violent, physical altercation prior to her death, per ABC 7.
Humphrey will be extradited from Minnesota to California to face murder and torture charges. However, at the moment there’s more questions about this suspect than answers.
How did investigators identify Humphrey as a suspect? How did Humphrey know Mooney? Why was he in California if he lived in Minnesota? What was the motive for the killing Mooney? The investigation is ongoing. We are certain to learn more after Humphrey is finished being processed in LA County Jail.
