It’s Homecoming season and cuffing season at our Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and who doesn’t want that HBCU love story? Not so fast though! As much as Homecoming is about returning to your old stomping grounds and even rekindling some old flings, the BLK App’s new survey about HBCU hookup culture might make you think twice about spinning the block.
BLK is a dating app, specifically designed for Black folks. According to its’ website, BLK is the no. 1 dating and lifestyle app for the Black community. And with perfect timing— just as Homecoming kicks off— the app has released a survey all about HBCU Homecoming hookup culture.
According to the full report, which surveyed almost 2,000 respondents, 41.2 percent of respondents say they’ve hooked up at a Homecoming event before, and 53.8 percent say it’s usually just a weekend fling. This means as much as you may be thinking about meeting your “Howard husband” or “Spelman superstar” during your next Homecoming visit, remember what most people are really there for.
The same survey found 47.9 percent of people are at Homecoming to simply “enjoy the scene and see what happens” while only 5.6 percent come to reignite an old flame. What might be surprising about the findings is most Homecoming goers do their best to keep things cute despite all the distractions around. Over 50 percent of people say they like to stay out the way and out of any potential drama.
If you do end up getting a little caught up in the Homecoming festivities, it might be good to know that 59.5 people say they have no regrets about their hookup experiences.
In addition to the inside scoop on Homecoming hookups, BLK’s survey ranked the best Homecomings, and surprise, surprise, North Carolina A&T University’s Homecoming— nicknamed GHOE (Greatest Homecoming On Earth) topped the list followed by Grambling State University and Howard University.
Howard and Morehouse ranked no. 1 for the best looking women and men. And Florida A&M University set it off as having the wildest Homecoming nights of all the schools.
If you haven’t booked your flights or bought your Homecoming tickets yet, we’re afraid you might be missing out on the best Homecoming season to date. Despite the pressure of hookups and the up in the air dating world, Homecoming is still the best time to let it all go and be surrounded by pure joy and Black excellence!
