Authors Robert L. Allen and Charles P. Henry examine the impending legacy of Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign and his success in becoming the nation's first African-American president in The Obama Phenomenon: Toward a Multiracial Democracy. The forthcoming book includes opinions and analysis from numerous black cultural and political scholars — including Alice Walker, Robert Allen and more — on the cultural and political impact of Obama's election victory and first term.

Allen and Henry have both written books on African-American politics and culture during their tenure at the University of California, Berkeley.
