The bells continue to toll for embattled actor Jason Mitchell. The MTV Movie & TV Awards have dropped him from contention for this year’s “Best Performance in a Show” award for his work in Showtime’s The Chi following allegations of misconduct.
As the Chicago Tribune reports:
Mitchell had been set to face off in the category with Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Kiernan Shipka (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). Notably, he was the only male in the category, as MTV dropped gender-specific categories a few years ago.
The awards show, which will air on June 17, will continue the category with just four nominees now that Mitchell has been removed.
As The Root has reported, citing a source to the Hollywood Reporter, the allegations against the 32-year-old concern reports of sexual harassment lodged by actress Tiffany Boone, who played his girlfriend on The Chi, as well as complaints about Mitchell from several others on the series.
Since the allegations arose, Mitchell, once seen as a rising star after critically acclaimed turns in Mudbone and Straight Outta Compton, has now been fired by The Chi and replaced in a role he had in the upcoming movie Desperados. He also has been dropped by his agent and manager.
