Montel Williams, the former talk-show host and longtime advocate of medical marijuana who uses it to treat his own multiple sclerosis, is behind a new California pharmacy that will dispense the drug. This week he took reporters on a tour of an upscale Sacramento medical-marijuana dispensary that he's helping to launch.
Medicinal marijuana is legal in California, but Williams hopes that the new center will help lower the stigma of medical-marijuana use. "Why are we treating patients who seek out this type of medication like they're some lesser members of society?" he said.
"We've been caught up in culture surrounding medical marijuana that's 20 years old," he told the Sacramento Bee. "While adhering to every single state law, we want to provide safe access for patients and really medicalize this. Patients should be put first … "
The Sacramento dispensary is run by Abatin Wellness Cooperative, and Williams said it's nice enough that even parents would be happy to check it out.
