First at the Little League World Series, and now at Major League Baseball’s World Series, Mo’ne Davis has proved that she can do no wrong. The 13-year-old was on the pitcher’s mound Saturday as she threw out the first pitch before Game 4 of the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals at San Francisco’s AT&T Park.
Mo’ne’s heater went right down the middle, and the crowd rightly cheered for her.
“Just to be at the World Series is pretty cool,” Mo’ne said. “If I didn’t throw a strike, I don’t know what I would do. Throwing a strike was probably the best part.”
Spike Lee, who recently directed Mo’ne’s documentary short, was in the crowd to cheer on baseball’s shining star. “When I found out that the commissioner was going to have her throw out the first pitch tonight, I said, ‘I’ve got to be here,’” Lee said. “She’s amazing … and she’s on the honor roll, too. And she’s only 13 years old.”
Although Mo’ne is a Phillies fan, she tried to remain impartial when asked which team she favored in the World Series. “I want the Giants to win because they won in 2012 and then they didn’t make it [in 2013], so if they win again, it’d be on and off,” Mo’ne said. “But I also want Kansas City to win because when’s the last time they won?”
