The niece of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the late Coretta Scott King spoke out against gay marriage at a National Organization for Marriage (NOM) rally in Atlanta. Alveda King likened gay marriage to a type of "extinction" and called it "genocide." She highlighted the family's strong commitment to marriage, including her uncle and "his lovely wife." Funny, she forgot to mention that Coretta Scott King supported gay marriage and was a speaker at Atlanta's Gay Pride Festival in 1996. Clearly she missed a large part of the message of equality and civil rights for all that her uncle and "his lovely wife" imparted to the world. Thankfully, this apple falls far from the tree.
