(The Root) — The Electronic Entertainment Expo, known as E3 for short, has had gamers all aflutter on Twitter. But when Feminist Frequency's Anita Saarkesian joined the conversation, things got ugly.
All she did was note that none of the games unveiled at Xbox One's press conference featured a female protagonist. The misogynist tweets came immediately after that, ranging from uninspired, "get back in the kitchen" quips to abusive name-calling (she was called the notorious c-word numerous times).
To give people a glimpse of "what it's like to be a female video game critic on Twitter," Saarkesian took screenshots of the worst responses and put them up at the Feminist Frequency Tumblr. A few of the tweets appear below.
