Actor/comedian Mike Epps routinely says wild and crazy things. It’s part of what some fans like about him. The problems come when he crosses the line, such as with comments about his kids’ looks. During a recent appearance on the “All the Smoke” podcast, he once again went too far when a discussion about the birth of his son led into revelations about his treatment of women.
As he explored the emotions about his son being born on the same day that his mother died, he said, “I used to cry all the time and ask God ‘What did I do wrong that I can’t have a son?’ But I know what it was. I lied to all these women, got them pregnant, sold them dreams and shit like that.”
So your daughters are nothing but punishment for bad behavior, while your son is the reward you’ve really been waiting for?
By his own admission, in his 53 years on this Earth, Mike Epps said he has “Never treated a woman 100 percent right.” I guess this means he doesn’t understand what comments like this do to the self-confidence and self-worth of his daughters. He said all this in an aspirational tone, like this would be a major accomplishment for him. Dude, you’re 53, get over yourself and grow up.
Honestly, it’s not that hard to be a decent person and treat women with the respect and dignity they deserve. You could start by not cheating and lying. Or maybe you could not openly insult your own daughters’ looks.
As you would expect these comments weren’t received well and “The Upshaws” actor was forced to issue a public apology to his family. In a since deleted Instagram post, Epps expressed his regret and also blamed the podcast for him being “misunderstood.”
“I wanna apologize to my wife for what I said on this dumb ass podcast. shit this shit is a trick bag. [i am] always misunderstood on what i say on the internet. smh never again will I interview with anyone. never i am off this shit for good fuck off” he wrote.
“Again, I wanna apologize to my beautiful wife for [being] ignorant and reckless,” he added. “I honor you and my family. Please forgive me.”
Of course this is all one big misunderstanding. Asking you about your son totally tricked you into disparaging your daughters and admitting that you don’t know how to treat a woman.
If you’re really committed to learning how to treat women right Mike Epps, perhaps you could start with listening instead of talking.
