Teleka Patrick, a new doctor who was only months into her Michigan hospital residency, has suddenly vanished, and no one has any clue as to where she could be.
Patrick failed to show up for work this month, which her colleagues say is not like her, and her car was later found abandoned in a ditch on an Indiana highway. Her purse and keys were also missing, CNN reports.
"[Missing work] is out of character where she is concerned," Matthias Patrick, her father, told HLN's Nancy Grace on Wednesday. "She is always deliberate about what she's doing."
Police are baffled by her sudden disappearance and have few clues as to what has happened to the 33-year-old.
Her car was found in a ditch approximately 30 feet off a highway, but wasn’t involved in a crash of any sort, an Indiana Police Sgt. told CNN. Those investigating used dogs to try and track whoever was driving in the car, but after tracing 30 feet back to the roadway, the canines were unable to get any trace of whomever was in the vehicle.
"We have scoured, searched and looked at everything we could possibly look at—all the exits, all the businesses, all the hotels," Indiana State Police Sgt. Rick Strong said. "We posted flyers, we talked to neighbors [who live near the highway]. We did a full-blown, on-the-ground search in the wooded area north of where the car was."
Patrick was last seen on Dec. 5 in the parking lot of Kalamazoo’s Borgess Medical Center. Her car was found that night, and the next morning she failed to show up at work, prompting the missing person report.
Her parents said she had just bought a plane ticket so she could come to visit them in Florida for the holidays.
"We were shocked. Disbelief," her mother said.
