It was only a matter of time before we’d see “Michael Jackson: The Musical.”
Everyone’s favorite pop singer, Michael Jackson, is expected to have a Broadway show in 2020 that tells the story of his life. Jackson’s estate and Columbia Live Stage said that they have agreed to develop the stage musical about the artist, Variety reports.
With the existence of shows such as Thriller Live, Michael Jackson “One” and Michael Jackson’s This Is It, news of a stage musical likely doesn’t come as much of a surprise to fans.
The musical, which is still untitled, will be written by playwright Lynn Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, and directed and choreographed by Christoper Wheeldon, artistic associate of the Royal Ballet in London. The score will, of course, pull from Jackson’s hits, such as “Thriller,” “Smooth Criminal” and all the other faves.
Since Jackson’s estate is involved with the production, fans will be curious to see if the controversial aspects of his life will be portrayed in the show.
