According to Deadline, Coogler is writing the script, which is described as “a period genre film that is a true star vehicle for Jordan.” The budget is reportedly “around $90 million,” with Sony, Warner Bros and Universal all fighting to get the rights. There’s even talk of “potential co-ownership of the IP,” which could signal that the project has franchise potential.

We know the vampire plot hasn’t been confirmed yet, but while the studios are busy figuring out the contracts and details, we’ve got thoughts on what we really want to see in a potential Michael B. Jordan/Ryan Coogler vampire movie.

Michael B. Jordan the Vampire Slayer?

We don’t know if the “Creed III” star will be a vampire or a vampire slayer—but honestly we’re really hoping he’s the vampire. Jordan could be an immortal badass who’s spent his long life violently taking out racists and dismantling white supremacy. To that end, there needs to be at least one huge fight scene where he brutally defeats multiple opponents.

A Fresh Take on Vampirism for the Culture

A lot of vampire stories have the same elements, and it’s an unfortunate side effect of the genre. However, Coogler has made a career out of fleshing out new ideas in familiar universes. This time around, we don’t just want a fresh, unique take on vampires, we want something that will also feel culturally relevant to Black audiences. Stories of freedom, family, activism and triumph that just happen to also revolve around vampires.

Less Is More With Gore

Look, we know a vampire movie is going to be bloody and violent, but there’s a way to make it feel organic and not gratuitous. Modern horror/thrillers don’t always understand that less is more when it comes to memorable moments. The best scary movies know how to use those ultra violent scary scenes to their advantage.

A Blood Thirsty Romance

Love stories are an essential part of vampire lore, so we expect there will be some sort of romance involved. However, Jordan doesn’t play the romantic leading man very often, so we really want to see this project give him a chance to show off that side of his range. We know he’s an awesome action hero, now, let’s see the charming gentleman behind the badass.

Black Vampire Universe

We recently suggested some actors and actresses we’d like to see as the iconic Dracula. If there’s a chance this project could evolve into more stories, we need some unexpected cameos to set up future films and TV series. Give us a scene with an army of spectacular Black stars as immortal vampires who just lay waste to a bunch of bad guys.
