The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released data on the number of AIDS cases in the nation. Miami ranked first, followed by Baton Rouge, with New Orleans rounding out the top three. Lack of access to health care, poverty and late testing are factors given for the figures. Baton Rouge and New Orleans consistently rank in the top five of AIDS cases in the country. According to state officials, part of the reason the Baton Rouge metro area ranks high is that there are four prisons in three parishes — Iberville and East and West Feliciana — in the metro area. Way to take out a population. We're guessing that AIDS education and prevention is not part of the program at the four prisons, but high-risk behavior is.
