Metro Boomin has openly talked about how much his mother, Leslie Joanne Wayne, has influenced him over the years. So one could only imagine how heartbroken he was after she was horrifically killed by her husband in a murder-suicide in June 2022.
In honor of his mom, the Grammy-nominated producer is giving back to the community: In 2017, Metro created “Single Moms Are Superheroes,” an initiative meant to aid single mothers nationwide. After Wayne’s passing, he renamed the initiative “Leslie Joanne Single Moms Are Superheroes.”
Boomin has done several things to help and honor single mothers who continue to provide for their families under dire circumstances. During a recent tour with Future, the superstar producer announced a multi-city grant program that will give $20,000 and free tickets to his show to single mothers in each city he performs — including Kansas City, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, Houston, Denver, Dallas, Las Vegas — until the tour ends in September.
In an interview with CNN, Metro stated, “As soon as I got the routing for the tour, I knew that I had to give back and share blessings with the cities and communities who are coming out and sharing blessings with me.”
“There are thousands and thousands of people in each one of these cities spending their hard-earned money on a ticket to come to the show. I’m more than grateful and don’t take that for granted. In return, it means a lot to me knowing that I can support a great cause in each city and leave a positive impact there in a way other than entertainment.”
This latest move just adds to the incredible year the producer has already had. Along with releasing two popular collaboration albums with rapper Future, Metro helped kick off one of the biggest rap beefs in history by producing the smash hit, “Like That,” featuring Future and Kendrick Lamar.
He also created the viral “BBL Drizzy” beat that has had the internet in a chokehold for the last three months
