Ever wondered what it’d be like to be Megan Thee Stallion for a day? Well, aside from suddenly possessing bionic knees, 24 hours in the life of the originator of “Hot Girl Summer” apparently involves Jordyn Woods, the Compton Cowboys, lots of hair-curling—and obviously, copious amounts of “hot girl shit”—at least, when Vogue’s cameras are on.
Some of that hot girl shit is literal, like when the self-proclaimed “weave-ologist” decides it’s a great idea to spontaneously touch up Jordyn’s waves with a curling iron—while standing in a hot tub. We cringed through that near-electrocution but admired Megan’s commitment; apparently, she’s never far from a hot tool, since she re-curls her own hair in a barn before the video is over.
In another scene, the rapper is refreshingly relatable when Woods asks how she learned to do makeup:
“One day my grandma just bought me hella eyeshadow from, like, the Dollar Store probably. I was like, 12,” Megan recalls while touching up her face. “When she did that, it was over for these bitches. My mom, like, arched my eyebrows for the first time when I was in ninth grade and I like, took over. Ooh, I fucked my shit up so bad,” she scoffed.
In the full-length video, Megan then recounts her playful debates with makeup artist Akil McKoy (also known as @Akilaface), saying, “I like Akil a lot—and we get into it like every day [over my makeup]: ‘Don’t do it like that, don’t put it like that friend.’ He’ll be like, ‘I’m not.’ And he doing whatever the fuck he wanna do.”
It was an amusing anecdote, but as reported by E! Online, the scene was less so to McKoy, who clearly felt he deserved more credit. “Makeup By Akilaface,” he commented on Megan’s Instagram post featuring the clip, contradicting any assumption that she’d done her own makeup for the scene.
Megan simply replied, “@akilaface and me.”
But despite basically confronting his star client in a public forum, McKoy opted to escalate the issue, responding: “no you filled in your eyebrows and put on your lighter Mac powder when I was done. This is not a makeup war I always do your makeup and never get credited. That is hurtful.”
Gauntlet thrown, Megan replied: “Woah. First of all if you was really ‘hurt’ you could’ve txt me this. Second you right it ain’t a war bc we all kno I do my makeup and you touch it up or I let you start it and I’ll finish it.”
Run that last part back: She’ll let you start it, and she’ll finish it.
While McKoy definitely deserves credit for his work, he ill-advisedly continued to argue the issue in his Instagram stories. Meanwhile, E! dug through his feed to unearth a now-deleted post that read:
Many people don’t know but me & Megan will literally sit up and collaborate on her face sometimes. She’s still a young woman who loves her makeup, some times she will and sometimes we will collab. I’m just grateful she chose me as her makeup artist. My beautiful Stalli!
If that’s the case, was it worth the public back-and-forth to potentially lose a celebrity client? Perhaps. No news yet on whether Megan’s currently seeking a new makeup artist.
As for Ms. Woods, judging by her share of costume changes, it seems she’s rebounded into a new best friendship with Megan since falling out with the Kardashian clan last summer. In fact, the two literally ride off into the sunset together in Vogue’s video—with the Compton Cowboys, of course.
“I’m Thee Fucking Stallion; of course I ride horses,” Megan quips.
