It looks like Toronto rapper Tory Lanez just got more bad news from inside his prison cell. On Jan. 9, a judge ruled in favor of Megan Thee Stallion in granting her a restraining order against Lanez.
The news comes after weeks of court battles between Meg and Lanez’ lawyers. In court, Megan — real name Megan Pete — gave an emotional testimony, which according to Judge Richard Bloom, showed Lanez is still a threat even from prison.
“We have a shooting that took place…and with a violent act like that there’s a ripple effect that continues on. In some cases, it may be small ripples that go away with time, and in other cases, it could be ripples that grow with time,” Judge Bloom said in court, according to NME. “Ms. Pete’s testimony here seems to make clear that the ripple effect here has been significant.”
In recent months, Pete alleged Lanez was harassing her and even paying bloggers to spread lies about her, The Root previously reported. Although the Toronto rapper tried his best to stop Megan’s court request, in the end, she walked away with the victory.
Megan appeared via video call to testify against Lanez on Jan. 9, according to independent reporter Meghann Cuniff on X. The Houston rapper said, “It just seems like I have to relive it every day. The person who shot me won’t let me forget it.” She continued saying that she’s “scared that when he gets out of jail he’s going to still be upset with me…I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again and maybe this time I won’t make it.”
According to her testimony, Megan hasn’t “been at peace” since she was shot by Lanez in 2020. Lanez was found guilty of the shooting along with other charges in December 2022. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and is eligible for parole in September 2029, according to Page Six.
Megan was previously granted a restraining order against Lanez in 2020, according to Page Six. But it expired in 2023. The new restraining order is valid until Jan. 9, 2030.
