In a new interview with Elle magazine, Matt Damon expressed his disappointment with President Obama, saying he would have preferred "a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done."
"I've talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level," Damon said. "One of them said to me, 'Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician … You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of this country, much better.
"People are literally without any focus or leadership, just wandering out into the streets to yell right now because they are so pissed off," he continued. "Imagine if they had a leader."
The opinion of this actor/armchair political stragist reflects a sense of frustration with Obama's performance that we've heard before. And it's totally understandable to vent about that disappointment. But we're dealing with the difficult realities of D.C., not the storybook endings of Hollywood. And with 2012 approaching, the actual choice isn't between "some balls" and no balls but, rather, between Obama and one of the candidates for the GOP nomination.
Hopefully, if Damon continues to "imagine" the qualities of his ideal leader and use his influence to discuss the issue, he'll keep that in mind.
