It was the elevator fight seen around the world. In one corner you had Solange Knowles, and in the other you had Jay-Z, getting pummeled by Solange. And in another, you had Beyoncé fixing her dress after the 2014 Met Gala event.

Now, four years later, Mathew Knowles, the father of Beyoncé and Solange, is speaking out about what goes down when you have a billion in the elevator.

Mathew Knowles appeared on The Wendy Williams Show on Monday, and of course she couldn’t wait to bring up the fight (at the 9:32 mark in the above video). To hell with his book he was promoting.

“I laughed so hard because if you know Solange, that’s Solange,” he said. “You never know what you’re gonna get—[she’s] a firecracker. Don’t know where she gets that from.”

“Beyoncé would be in the corner, quiet, just kinda like, ‘When y’all finish, let me know,’” Knowles told Williams. “So I just laughed.”

Yes, violence is bad. But apparently the family bond between the Carters and the Knowleses can’t be broken. Jay-Z has rapped about it. Beyoncé sang about it. But will we ever know why Solange went “Mortal Kombat” on Jigga? Probably not. But something tells me Mathew probably received a phone call from Solange, telling him to stop talking about family business.
