A Boston father was shot and killed outside a barbershop in the city's Mattapan neighborhood where he had brought his 4-year-old son to get a haircut, CBS Boston reports.
The fatal shooting occurred just after noon Tuesday outside the Hair It Is barbershop.
The victim was identified as 31-year-old Marcus Hall, who was shot six times, WCVB reports, including twice in the head.
“I don’t know how I’m gonna tell [my son] he’s not gonna see his father again,” Shiaka McIntosh, the boy’s mother, told CBS Boston. “His father … loved his son; he was definitely in his son’s life.”
McIntosh said that the child was not physically harmed but now has to grapple with the loss of his dad. According to CBS Boston, it is not clear if the child witnessed the shooting.
“He was a good father, not a gang member, not a gangbanger, none of that; he was a great father,” McIntosh said. “I was at work, he was with his son, and it’s unfortunate that he had to die in front of my child or, you know, however it transpired.”
“All my son said is, ‘I don’t want Daddy to die,’” McIntosh told WCVB. “We don’t even see a lot of black men with their kids, and this man was with his child.”
According to CBS Boston, police do not know of any obvious motive at this point but do not think that the shooting is random.
“It’s a very active homicide investigation in which our officers are canvassing the scene and looking for any and all witnesses,” Boston Police Chief Willie Gross said. “We’d also like to state that this doesn’t appear to be a random act of crime.”
No suspects have been arrested.
