Tradition has it that when a man and a woman get married, the bride’s family bears the responsibility of hosting and paying for the wedding – don’t believe us, just ask Martha Stewart. But what happens to that tradition when the bride and the groom happen to be the children of Hollywood megastars?

Actors-comedians Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are about to join forces in the best way as Murphy’s son Eric Murphy and Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin Lawrence prepare to tie the knot, and one of the biggest questions on people’s minds (besides what celebrities will be in attendance) is, “who’s paying?”

During a recent appearance on Big Boy’s Neighborhood, Lawrence confirmed he would stick with tradition and cover the cost – which shouldn’t be a problem for him, considering he’s worth nearly 110 million dollars.

“Eddie says I gotta pay for it because he said he paid for his daughter’s wedding, for the last six weddings. He says it’s my turn now, I don’t mind, I don’t mind,” Lawrence said. “It’s a blessing, they are two beautiful young people.”

Long before the two decided to take their relationship to the next level, their famously funny dads joked about who would foot the bill if they ever tied the knot.

“I’m gonna try to get Eddie to pay for it,” Lawrence told Jimmy Kimmel during an appearance on his show in 2022.

Murphy didn’t waste time clapping back, telling ETalk he had no plans to change tradition.

“No, no, no, no, no. That’s not how it goes. My daughter just got married, and I had to pay. I really had to pay. And you have to do the same, Martin. Don’t try to switch it up, don’t try to change no shit, do no Hollywood switch,” he said. You’re paying for the wedding. If it goes down, Martin is paying. And the wedding better be wonderful.”

Murphy and Lawrence announced their engagement on December 1, sharing a video of the beautiful candle-lit proposal on Instagram.
