Whether you’re a famous celeb or not, there’s no denying that relationship break-ups are hard. Just ask Lupita Nyong’o, who recently revealed she was in a “season of heartbreak” following her decision to split from ex Selema Masekala last week. But one person coming to her aid is none other than Air star and comedian Marlon Wayans.
While many other celebs took the time to share kind words to the Oscar-winning actress in the comment section of her breakup post on Instagram, it was Wayan’s advice that caught the attention of many after going viral on X/Twitter.
“Trust God. He wants better for you. All lessons are blessings especially the painful ones,” he began. “This too shall pass. Warmest of hugs. Be kind to you as you heal. I always say whenever I have a breakup, ‘lucky me, I get to love ME again. I missed you me.’ Go love on you woman.” WHEW, who knew Marlon had a beautiful way with words?
Basking in the overwhelming love and support, Nyong’o later took to Instagram over the weekend to thank her fans, followers and all those who reached out for trying to help her get through this time.
“Thank you for all the kindness I have received from sharing my heartbreak news,” she wrote in since-expired Instagram Story post on Saturday as noted by People. “The words of encouragement mean more to me than I anticipated. They are a balm. And it feels comforting to have a little corner online for the romantically heartbroken to gather.”
Additionally, Wayans kindness comes just a day before a case was dismissed against the White Chicks actor for disturbing the peace. Per CBS News, the actor was issued a citation back in June after he allegedly pushed past an American Airlines employee in an attempt to board his flight in Denver after being told he had to gate check his baggage at the last minute.
In a video to Instagram at the time, Wayans explained how he was told to condense his bags from three to two, as is standard airline policy, but once he did so—the gate employee allegedly told him there was no more room on the plane. That’s when the comedian tried to move past him which subsequently resulted in American Airline’s corporate office getting involved and him getting a citation for disturbing the peace from local police.
However, over the weekend, a Colorado judge dismissed the citation entirely. In a statement following the dismissal, Wayan’s lawyer said:
“Even with atrocities happening in the world, there is never a time to be silent about racism in our community. Marlon Wayans is guilty of one thing—living while black. The City Of Denver finally did what United Airlines has been asking—dismiss this case. They are to be applauded for doing so. Our community does not need one more innocent black man wrongfully accused and wrongfully convicted. I hope this inspires everyone to be more aware of their own implicit and explicit bias.”
