(The Root) — On Aug. 28, 2013, The Root will recognize the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom with a full-day digital forum on Twitter, dedicated to today's most pressing civil rights issues. Experts, activists and celebrities will lead the global Twitter community in a virtual march, highlighting a variety of topics — including criminal justice, education and immigration — in a series of hourlong segments leading up to President Barack Obama's speech at the Lincoln Memorial.

The March on Twitter, which will occur from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT and feature informative discussions and debate on each key issue, will stream live at The Root.

Virtual civil rights marchers worldwide will participate by following the hashtag #MarchON. This first-of-its-kind event will advance conversations on the social-justice agenda that Martin Luther King Jr. and others pushed to the forefront of American society 50 years ago. Join us using the #MarchON hashtag or follow us on The Root's official account, @TheRoot247.
