A man wanted for a shooting incident that killed his 15-year-old son and critically injured his ex-wife was found dead in a South Carolina motel room, North Carolina police say, according to CBS News.
Authorities were searching for Earl Valentine, who confessed to the deadly shooting on Facebook Live.
Norlina, N.C., Police Chief Taylor Bartholomew told the media in Raleigh, N.C., that officers tracked Valentine's cellphone to Richmond, Va., on Wednesday morning. Bartholomew believes that Valentine was visiting his father's grave.
Authorities then tracked the fugitive to Columbia, S.C., where he was found in a motel room dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Valentine was facing murder charges in the shooting death of his 15-year-old son early Tuesday. Authorities believe that the teen was killed when he tried to protect his mother, who was critically injured in the incident.
According to Bartholomew, Keisha Valentine and her son moved to Norlina to escape Valentine's abuse. A restraining order against him expired just last month.
“I’ve been in law enforcement 20 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this; this guy is bragging about it on social media,” Bartholomew told the station. “No remorse whatsoever.”
Bartholomew said that Keisha Valentine is still in critical condition.
