A man who allegedly randomly slashed a woman's neck because she's white has been charged with a hate crime, authorities confirmed Wednesday, the New York Post reports.
Gregory Alfred, 25, was extradited back to New York after authorities caught up with him at his mother's New Jersey home over the weekend.
Alfred is set to be arraigned in the New York City borough of Brooklyn sometime Wednesday, when he will face charges of attempted murder and felony assault, both as hate crimes.
Alfred reportedly explained to cops that he was slashing white people because he blamed them and "the system" for prohibiting him from freely smoking weed, police sources reportedly told the Post.
His target, 53-year-old Poland native Janina Popko, was cut across her neck as she was walking in Brooklyn on March 10.
Alfred, who already has a record with more than 20 prior arrests, was taken into custody after his mom turned him in.
