A man is facing multiple charges after police say he abducted his girlfriend and her two children and held them captive for at least two years in a Virginia home.
According to Fox5, Kariem Ali Muhammad Moore is facing charges of abduction, felony assault and battery. The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said that more charges could be coming.
The situation unfolded on Saturday afternoon, when deputies responded to a home in Fredericksburg for a welfare check after getting a call from a concerned family member who had not seen the 32-year-old woman or her two children, ages 8 and 11, for some time.
When deputies got to the home, they met Moore, who appeared to be reluctant to let them inside, officials say. As they spoke to Moore, the woman and two children ran out of a side door toward the deputies.
The victims told officers that they had not been allowed to leave the home for two years, authorities said.
The woman, who remains unidentified, was taken to the hospital in serious condition for untreated health problems. The children were also taken to the hospital but were released to the care of relatives after receiving treatment.
Moore is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
