It's that time of year when celebrities are showing up in working-class communities, handing out free turkeys and other essential items so people can get a break this holiday season.

Magic Johnson is no exception. He and his Magic Johnson Foundation, in partnership with Feed the Children and other organizations, gifted families in Lansing, Mich., with food and other essentials like shampoo, conditioner, lotion and Avon products, USA Today reports

"Families are struggling," Johnson told USA Today. "They need help and we understand that. We know that the economy has affected people here in Lansing."

The Johnson Foundation gifted nearly $1 million in supplies to working-class families in the community. Johnson explained how the cause hits home, since Lansing is his home.

"This is where I'm from," Johnson said. "I wanted to bless some families here, and not just families, but the kids as well. I wanted to come home and do something positive, something good."

Johnson didn't come alone. His brought his family members and the entire basketball team from Michigan State University—his alma mater. They all helped him hand out food, toys and coats to children. Kudos to Johnson and all of his partner organizations who helped make this benefit come to fruition. He's my #MCM.
