If you thought you’d seen the last of NC Lt Gov. Mark Robinson and all his MAGA foolishness, you’d better think again. This time, Robinson is catching flak for yet another case of his alleged compromised morals, and it’s clearly hurting his campaign.
Last week, The Root reported on the CNN report which exposed Robinson’s alleged explicit comments he made on a porn website, including one referring to himself a “black NAZI.” He denies these claims and blames it all on his opponent, Attorney General Josh Stein, but now Robinson is back in headlines after his email was linked directly to an account on Ashley Madison, “a website designed for married people seeking affairs,” according to POLITICO.
Mike Lonergan, Robinson’s communications director, said the Lt governor didn’t make the online account, saying “Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson denies that he ever created or used an account on this website.” On the contrast, a close advisor to the Lt governor confirmed differently. The advisor, who was verified but granted anonymity, told POLITICO the email address linked to the Ashley Madison account does, in fact, belong to Robinson.
The only thing working in Robinson’s favor is the fact that this particular email address has been compromised in multiple data breaches, according to his staff, but we’ll just let you make your own opinion on the full matter. It seems many of his own staff has, anyway. According to Fox News, four of his top staffers have reportedly stepped down from their roles in Robinson’s gubernatorial campaign.
In response to the abrupt and clear divide within his own campaign, Robinson said in a statement, “I appreciate the efforts of these team members who have made the difficult choice to step away from the campaign.” He continued, “I wish them well in their future endeavors. I look forward to announcing new staff roles in the coming days.”
After the CNN report, and the added Ashley Madison debacle, Robinson’s campaign is clearly shook to its core. Some North Carolina Republicans have even began pressuring Robinson to drop out of the race, despite the state’s deadline for him to end his campaign already passing.
