A Louisiana State University student appeared to trade in his football helmet for handcuffs after turning himself in to authorities this weekend. Police say the arrest came after a woman alerted him to authorities for an alleged offense any woman would be horrified of.
Javien Toviano, 19, was accused of recording himself having sex with a woman without her consent, per the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. The woman told police she discovered the videos on the teen’s iPad which appeared to be recorded from a camera hidden in a clock in his bedroom. She told detectives this wasn’t an isolated incident but she addressed Toviano in the past about recording the two of them having sex without her consent and asserted she did not want to be on camera.
Toviano turned himself in to authorities Sunday, per the sheriff’s office. He admitted to authorities in an interview that he used the camera inside his clock to record the encounters with the woman. Authorities did not say whether the woman was an LSU student.
Since then, the sophomore was suspended from all team activities in accordance with departmental policies, the university said in a statement. Out of “respect for the legal process,” the university offered no further comment on the arrest.
Toviano signed with the school last year, finishing his freshman year strong having been in every single game, completing the season with 33 tackles and one pass breakup. According to The Associated Press, practice picks back up in August. LSU is hosting a competition for both cornerback spots ahead of preseason practice, per The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate. Toviano is expected to compete for playing time at cornerback.
Toviano faces charges of video voyeurism. His bond conditions are not available at the moment. It is also unknown whether the teen has legal representation.
