VH1’s New York edition of Love & Hip Hop is about to lose a cast member. Mendeecees Harris, Yandy Smith-Harris’ husband, was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to drug-trafficking charges.

During his trial, Harris was free on $600,000 bond, and his Love & Hip Hop earnings went toward his restitution payments.

Harris posted on Instagram about his sentencing and gave advice to young men out there in the streets hustling.

Smith-Harris also posted on the photo-sharing site and thanked everyone who stuck by them.

“You have no idea how much your love and encouragement means,” she wrote. “We finally have closure and are prepared and ready for all the future holds. God and love always prevails.”

The couple, who were married on an episode of Love & Hip Hop, never, ever tried to shy away from the wrong choices Harris made in life; and with their situation playing out on the show, it gave people a chance to see how Harris coped with the results of those choices.
