Rapper and Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood star Soulja Boy was arrested Thursday on suspicion of probation violation after police officers found a gun in his Hollywood Hills home, the Los Angeles Times reports. Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Officer Jenny Houser told the Times that 26-year-old Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested around 7 a.m. Thursday.
Although it is unclear why officers were called to the residence in the first place, Houser said that while they were there, they found a firearm, and because Soulja Boy is on probation, he is not allowed to own or possess one.
Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, told the Times that Soulja Boy was on a two-year probation for carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle and that probation was scheduled to end this month.
That conviction stemmed from a 2014 traffic stop in the Granada Hills area of Los Angeles. Soulja Boy was the passenger in a car that police pulled over because the driver allegedly ran a stop sign. During the traffic stop, police found a concealed weapon.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department inmate-locator system, Soulja Boy was released at 11:06 p.m. Thursday on $35,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Van Nuys Municipal Court on Jan. 9 at 8:30 a.m.
