Poor Lolo Jones can’t catch a break. Not only has Jones not lived up to the hype surrounding track and field and bobsledding, but she was also the first star to be booted this season from Dancing With the Stars.
Monday, after her horrific cha-cha performance, Jones blamed a technical glitch that knocked her off-kilter. It seems as though Jones already knew what her fate would be once she attempted to explain herself. But the judges didn’t spare her any criticism.
During Tuesday’s first elimination show, Jones was up against fashion designer Betsey Johnson, and the senior citizen fashion designer survived. Apparently Jones took her elimination extra hard, because she posted a long-winded self-pity party on Facebook:
My prayer tonight is for God to soften me and my heart. When you go so many times rejected in public you put walls up. When I was dancing last night and messed up I had flashbacks of the three Olympics and that people constantly tease me about. I thought oh no here it comes again. People are going to ridicule me. I'm so tired of feeling embarrassed.
I joined the other competitors upstairs and I couldn't force a smile on my face. I felt like vomiting and in between the other dances I went in a back room and fought back tears. I felt so broken. So unlovable. Embarssed. [sic]
My brief time on #DWTS was a lasting lesson. I really wanted to stay on the show and have the layers of hurt wash away by showing the public how hard I work. I wanted to come away a victor for once. I wanted to do so good performing in public that the haters would stop teasing me.
But that is my way of thinking. Not Gods. Instead I need to trust God that he would heal my heart. That I would not work so hard for the world to validate and redeem me but know that God already conquered that for me on the cross.
My time was brief but the lesson is lasting. Thank you everyone who wrote me kind messages. You were helping me not fall into darkness.
Love ya guys (see I’m getting softer )
My prayer for tonight
Psalm 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Oh, so now Jones wants a softer heart. I tried really hard to feel sorry for Jones, but color me not sympathetic. Maybe that softer heart could have came in handy when her rude social media antics started to supersede her athleticism.
Let’s just take a look at a few times when many people wished she’d had a “softer heart.”
First there was the time she made fun of former Rutgers defensive lineman Eric LeGrand, who suffered a spinal injury in a game against Army on Oct. 16, 2010, which left him paralyzed from the neck down. In 2012 LeGrand tweeted, “@lolojones want to race me?” and Jones responded, “Get Checked for a concussion. Clearly, u’ve been hit in the head … Cos u arnt beating a track athlete.”
Kick a man while he’s down, why don’t you?
Then there was the assumption that Rihanna slept around:

Here’s the time she made fun of a fan’s natural hair who dressed up as her for Halloween:

Instead of condemning George Zimmerman during his murder trial in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, Jones could only focus on making fun of Rachel Jeantel, the star witness in the murder trial, tweeting, “Rachel Jeantel looked so irritated during the cross-examination that I burned it on DVD and I’m going to sell it as Madea goes to court.”
Maybe Jones now realizes that her hard-hearted ways just aren’t conducive to good sportsmanship or karma. Bye, Lolo.
