Lizzo just updated her fans on social media, revealing her plans to take a “gap year” while also showing off her body transformation.
The “Truth Hurts” singer posted earlier this week on her Instagram account. In the reel, Lizzo is standing in a bathing suit on a porch as it rains, looking up and opening her arms up to the sky. She wrote in the caption, “I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace,” with the praying hands emoji. The post received plenty of love from her fans, who took to the comments with their thoughts.
Some fans showered Lizzo with love, writing, “You looked great before you look even more amazing now.” And, “The body is bodying.” Another user shared similar sentiments, writing, “You’ve changed so much! So much hard work and it’s paying off!”
Some other comments leaned toward the unkind, as one user wrote, “Oh ozempic you’ve done it again.” Another, wrote, “lol damn you couldn’t fix the bra part.”
One comment that has over 4,000 likes, seems to call out the hypocrisy in those who were Lizzo’s “haters” before her weight loss. It reads, “I don’t care what nobody says Lizzo was gorgeous with the weight and now since she lost it the haters are her biggest fans now and I don’t like ya’ll because it’s not genuine.”
The post comes of course during a precarious time in her career. The sexual and racial harassment lawsuit from the singer’s former dancers is still unresolved, as Billboard has reported.
Earlier this year, Lizzo posted, “I quit,” on her social media, leading fans to think she either quit the social media app or the business altogether, but swiftly returned to social media the following week, and has continued posting since.
While the singer has appeared at various events including the Met Gala and the Grammys, she has yet to release new music since the lawsuit, which could be what she is alluding to when saying she is taking, “a gap year.”
