We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed with the incredible Halloween costumes we saw this week, but this one stole our hearts.
When two-year-old Parker Curry stood stunned before forever first lady Michelle Obama’s portrait in the National Portrait Gallery in March of this year, the image instantly went viral.
“[She] believes Michelle Obama is a queen, and she wants to be a queen as well,” her mother told CNN at the time.
Well, this Halloween, Parker got her wish, dressing up in a miniature version of the patchwork Milly dress worn by Obama in the portrait, and earning a well-deserved shoutout from her favorite first lady.
According to CNN, when asked what she wanted to be for Halloween this year, the adorable homage was apparently the now 3-year-old Parker’s idea.
“We asked her a few times, ‘Are you sure?’” Jessica Curry told the network. Parker’s response? “’Yes, I do. I want to be Michelle Obama.’”
And, as luck would have it, there already someone willing and able to make her Halloween dream come true. Alisha Welsh, who runs the New York, family-based Magnolia Lake Children’s Clothing, had previously offered to make Parker a replica of Mrs. Obama’s dress when she saw her photo last spring. For Halloween, she gifted a version to the youngster.
All that was left was for Parker to strike the first lady’s thoughtful pose and — as Mrs. Obama confirmed— she nailed it.
Of course, this is not the first time Parker’s come in contact with her “queen.” After Mrs. Obama caught wind of Parker’s viral photo, the two met up within days for a little impromptu dance party.
As for Parker, we love the fact that she has such an elegant icon to look up to—and hope she knows she’s a little queen, too.
