The Baltimore native started her career at Essence where she ran the lifestyle and fashion departments. She was co-founder of Savoy, editorial director of Uptown, and creative director and editor-in-chief of Ebony where she produced iconic covers of Michael Jackson, Prince, and Barack and Michelle Obama.
