When it comes to enjoying their wealth, there’s no right way for celebrities to proceed. If they spend their money on seemingly meaningless purchases, they’re seen as out of touch and entitled. If they don’t ball out the way fans expect, people are suddenly counting their coins. Music superstar Lil Nas X found himself in the internet’s backlash machine on Friday when he posted a video of himself flying commercial and people jumped on it, calling him “broke.”
One user replied, “aren’t you supposed to be flying private? *gasp* are you... broke?”
Another person pointed out the ridiculous nature of this statement, posting, “Fun fact: most famous people with a few dollars in the bank fly commercial. Everyone would run through their fortune if they flew private everytime they needed to go somewhere.”
Someone else asked, “Did the montero money run out”
Exhausted with this nonsense, the “Industry Baby” rapper responded to the questions about his travel arrangements, writing on X, “to all u bitches calling me broke for flying on a regular plane i don’t wanna see not one viral carbon footprint tweet when yall see my ass on a jet.”
One person commented on the hypocrisy, posting, “This really how they do niggas man. Clown u for flying commercial and then make TikTok’s of your private jet movements.”
Another user noted the silliness of caring about how celebrities travel, writing on X, “I honestly don’t get people judging for taking coach… you’ll get to the same place in the same time frame and it’s cheaper like?”
For all his success and popularity, the Grammy winner is a relatively new artist whose net worth is rumored to be $9 million. While that is a lot of money, it’s not “fly private all the time” money. If he wants to make his way into that exclusive club, he can’t go around spending his money on frivolous trips. And if he’s protecting the environment in the process, he should be commended not criticized.
