Chicago rapper Lil Durk, real name Durk Devontay Banks, just got more bad news as he sits behind bars for allegedly hiring people to murder a rival rapper in Los Angeles. The rapper was already facing serious charges for the murder-for-hire plot against Georgia rapper Quando Rondo, but now, it seems even more charges are in Durk’s future connected to a totally separate incident.

A day before his detention hearing on Thursday (Dec. 12), unsealed court records claim Durk was behind the 2022 fatal shooting of Stephon Mack, a known gang member. According to documents obtained by Dailymail.com, Mack, a leader of the Smashville faction of “Gangster Disciples,” was shot and killed in Illinois back in January 2022.

Durk was allegedly involved in Mack’s murder as part of another supposed revenge plot honoring the death of the rapper’s brother, Dontay “DThang” Banks, according to ABC News 7. Dontay was killed in 2021 by a faction of “Gangster Disciples” with ties to Smashville, the warrant application said.

According to a federal agent involved in the case, “Lil Durk was and still is offering money for people to kill those responsible for his brother’s murder.” The filing which was submitted in April 2023 but recently unsealed, continued saying “more specifically, offering to pay money for any Gangster Disciple that is killed.”

Two men, Anthony Montgomery-Wilson and Preston Powell, have already been charged with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in Mack’s killing. According to HipHopdx, investigators have allegedly found text message conversations in which one of the men asked: “Did durk gave (sic) u that money.”

The last thing Durk needs as he’s facing charges for one murder-for-hire plot is another murder-for-hire case against him. Official charges haven’t been formally brought against the rapper yet, but law enforcement say the investigation into these matters remains open, according to the Chicago Tribune.

In response to the case against Durk, his lawyers told the court during the recent hearing “Mr. Banks has been intensely committed to giving back to the Chicago community he loves through his Neighborhood Heroes Foundation and has put on more than a dozen charitable events over the last few years.” They continued saying “He is looking forward to fighting against these false allegations in court.”

Lil Durk was denied bond and will remain in jail until his trial.
