Slate is reporting that the pro-democracy movement has swept into Libya, where protesters clashed with police and government supporters overnight. Hundreds of people poured into the streets of Benghazi on Tuesday to protest the arrest of a rights campaigner. Protesters threw stones at police, who pelted them with rubber bullets.
Protesters called for the removal of Col. Muammar Qaddafi, who has ruled Libya since seizing power in a coup in 1969. Online anti-government demonstrations have been planned for Thursday. We've said it before and we'll say it again: The desire for democracy cannot be stopped. The revolution will be digitized, and the pro-democracy movement will continue. The emerging question is which dictator will step down before he is made to flee or resign by pro-democracy protesters?
