Fox Networks struck ratings gold with Lee Daniels and Danny Strong's Empire, and during the Television Critics Association summer meeting, Daniels announced an Empire spinoff.
"Without question," Daniels stated. "There's so much ripe story that we've talked about already, about Cookie's family, what makes her her. That in itself is fascinating to me."
One can only imagine what the spinoff's storylines will consist of, but Executive Producer Brian Grazer wants to ensure that Empire never "gets corny" before the spinoff happens.
"As long as it stays dangerous, we're cool. As long as we can stay that way for this season, these guys can think about a spinoff; we'll be OK," Grazer said, according to the Associated Press.
The second season of Empire kicks off Sept. 23 at 9 p.m., and it already seems to be filled with tons of star-power special guests. Chris Rock, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland and Marisa Tomei are all scheduled to make guest appearances, and it was just announced that Daniels is trying to make a Mariah Carey appearance happen. But Daniels doesn't want to go overboard with the guest appearances.
"When you start a television show, you don't really know what you're doing, and so you think you'll get your friends together and everything, and I find that the more celebrities, the more stars I put on this show, the more it takes away from the [Lyon] family. The family, the family, the family is the most important thing," Daniels explained.
Well, it looks as though Fox and the team behind Empire are making every effort to keep the viewers intrigued and glued to their televisions every week.
