You know those people who want the old Kanye West back? Who reminisce about the days of 'Spaceship' and "Bush don't care about Black people" and colorblocking Lacoste polos and dating Deltas?
I am not one of those people. (Although I do love Deltas.)
I do not miss the old Kanye, and I actually prefer Yeezus and MBDTF to each previous album. I loved the old Kanye, btw. But new Kanye has become my favorite artist, surpassing Ghostface and whichever God created Esther Baxter.
That said, I'm (slightly) disappointed by 'All Day' — an unfinished track that leaked today (and, reportedly, was scrapped by a predictably angry Kanye). "Slightly" because the early versions of Kanye tracks and the actual album versions are often much, much different, so I'll reserve my final judgement until then. But, if this is any indication of the sound/direction of his new album, new, hard to consume Kanye is going to sound like old, accessible Kanye. And I thought we were done with old, accessible Kanye. I want the new Kanye back.
