(The Root) — Meagan Good jumps the broom from supporting player to leading lady in NBC's new soapy thriller, Deception, which premieres Monday at 10 p.m. ET.
The show features Good as undercover detective Joanna Locasto, who has returned to her hometown to investigate the death of her childhood friend. She's joined in this effort by her ex-boyfriend Will Moreno (Laz Alonso), who is an FBI agent.
Good made a brief appearance at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., on Sunday but bolted immediately after the panel to catch a flight. She did say, however, that she was delighted to play a character not specified by race and that she "cried for 15 minutes in my car" when she learned she had gotten the part.
We did get a chance to talk to Alonso, who hinted that things might be heating up between Will and Joanna soon.
And responding to the possibility of him and Good working together on the big screen again — the pair co-starred in 2007's Stomp the Yard and last year's Jumping the Broom — Alonso seemed open to the idea. However, he addded that there might be a caveat: "Meagan's husband [Hollywood producer], Devon Franklin, holds the key." We'll just have to stay tuned.
