Lawyers representing women who say that a L’Oreal hair relaxer burned their scalps and made them go bald are now demanding an urgent recall of the product, TMZ reports.

A class action suit against the company was filed in September, demanding more than $5 million, TMZ noted in an earlier report. The suit includes a list of consumer complaints on Amazon.com from angry customers who reportedly went bald from using its SoftSheen-Carson Optimum Amla Legend No-Mix, No-Lye Relaxer, which, TMZ reports, is touted as being healthy and safe because of its use of Amla oil and the lack of lye.

According to TMZ, L’Oreal brushed off complaints, saying that its packaging warns of the danger of possible hair loss and that it clearly instructs its customers on how to use the product safely.

Lawyers Ben Meiselas and Mark Geragos, who are representing the alleged victims, said that L’Oreal acknowledged that the product contains dangerous chemicals despite advertising the product as one that “protects the scalp and skin.”
