(The Root) — Embattled singer Lauryn Hill took to her Tumblr blog this week to address historical racism and her critics, calling the concept of reverse racism "flawed, if not absolutely ridiculous."

The screed comes on the heels of the release of her new song, "Neurotic Society," which raised eyebrows among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists and others for lyrics that seem to target "girl men," "drag queens" and "social transvestitism," which have contributed to a "neurotic, godless society."

"Much of my music, if not all of it, is about Love, a therapeutic resolve created in response to the lack of messages encouraging people like me toward free moral agency," she writes. "Helping to ameliorate this condition has never been addressed through the political arena alone. It is a sacrificial work that doesn't simply happen between the hours of 9 to 5 or Monday through Friday, but when inspiration leads us to avail ourselves for the Truth that needs to be said."

On July 8, Hill is to begin serving three months in prison for failing to pay about $1 million in taxes over the past decade. In a Tumblr post in May, Hill said that she was required to release the new track in order to help settle her tax debt.
