Rapper the Notorious B.I.G. (real name Christopher Wallace) was killed in a drive-by shooting 15 years ago, but last week's release of his autopsy is still being called "premature," MTV News reports. Why? The Los Angeles Police Department shared the details of the trajectory of each of the four bullets that struck him with the public before notifying his family.
They've received an apology from the LAPD for the administrative error behind the timing of the release, but we're guessing that what will really make relatives feel better is if the report inspires new witnesses to come forward in the still-unsolved case.
Well, on Monday (December 10), the LAPD apologized to the family of the slain hip-hop icon, born Christopher Wallace. "Due to an administrative error, the autopsy report was released prematurely. Robbery-Homicide Division detectives had intended to notify Mr. Wallace's family prior to releasing the report," read a statement released to the press.
According to the LAPD, they had hoped that the autopsy report, which revealed the trajectory of each of the four bullets that struck Biggie on March, 9, 1997, would help renew interest in the 15-year-old case and prompt new witnesses to come forward.
"Our detectives personally spoke with the Wallace family [Friday] night, and apologized for not notifying them prior to the release" Capt. Billy Hayes told the Los Angeles Times today. "Obviously this has been a challenging case for us to solve. We hope that witnesses or other people with information will come forward and give us the clues we need to solve this case."
