Lamar Odom opened up about the scary connection he has with Liam Payne, the former One Direction singer who passed away in Argentina last week. Payne died after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires; no foul play is suspected, but an autopsy revealed he had a mixture of drugs in his system, including “pink cocaine.”
Speaking to TMZ, the former NBA player — who was famously in a tumultuous marriage with Khloe Kardashian -- shed light on his own experiences with pink cocaine, telling the outlet, “I’ve heard voices before.”
“The drugs could cause you to hallucinate,” he explained. “And if [Payne] was in a hallucination state who knows what could happen.” Several eyewitnesses confirmed Payne had been acting erratically before his death, reportedly smashing his laptop and even had to be “carried back” to his hotel room before his passing.
The official toxicology report released earlier this week showed that crack and benzodiazepine, a type of depressant, were also in Payne’s system at the time of his death, according to Page Six.
“If you’re hearing voices, then it’s hard to escape those voices,” Odom added. “So God forbid if those voices told him to do something that led to his fate, that would be real shame.”
Odom has famously had first-hand experiences with drug addiction, as he nearly died in 2015 after he was found unconscious in Las Vegas. He has since been very open about sobriety and his newfound purpose in life, specifically after acquiring three rehab centers in California as a means to help others who may be struggling with addiction to get on the right path and rebuild their lives.
