During a medical emergency he experienced last week while partying at a Nevada brothel, Lamar Odom reportedly suffered 12 strokes that affected his motor skills, TMZ reports. Although the strokes did not affect vital organs, sources tell TMZ that they have had an "impact on his ability to walk and talk."
The strokes were discovered after doctors performed a series of brain scans on the former NBA forward, who last played for the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2014 he played for Spain's Laboral Kutxa.
Odom, whose battle with substance abuse has been widely reported in recent years, was found unconscious last week at Dennis Hof's Love Ranch South in Pahrump, Nev.
Doctors do not know how much of his motor skills and speech will be restored, but he will require months of physical therapy, TMZ says. It was reported last week that he was talking and texting.
But the biggest concern is over his kidneys, which have failed, the report says. He is currently undergoing dialysis treatment and may require a kidney transplant, according to the news outlet.
The incident has reportedly reunited Odom and his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, and his recovery is likely to figure prominently in her family's reality-television show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, according to some reports.
